Shoe retailer Dune London could make its return to Newcastle, if plans to make changes to a unit with an upmarket shopping centre are approved.
After closing its standalone store in Eldon Square during the pandemic, it has revealed it is planning to open a new outlet at Central Arcade building in Grainger Street, Chronicle Live reported.
This is the former home of Cath Kidston before the kitsch homeware and accessories store shut down in 2020 as well.
Its application stated: “Dune London will take over the existing, empty retail unit provided by the landlord.”
A number of works will be carried out if plans are approved, including installing retail joinery, new flooring, movable units, a cash desk, and decoration. The existing walls, ceilings, skirting, internal partitions, doors and windows will remain the same.
This is the first time Dune London has had its own store in Newcastle city centre for three years, having only operated as a francashire within Fenwick department store since then.
Dune London is clearly making a big return to the retail world, as it also recently enrolled Strictly Come Dancing’s Nadiya Bychkova and Kai Widdrington to advertise the brand. The pair even slipped on a pair of the retailer’s shoes to perform at St Pancras station, showing off their skills and the pumps to the public.
Retailers that are set to re-open following the downturn during the pandemic need to make sure they employ retail maintenance experts. This will help give them the best chance of success, keeping their premises well-looked after and, therefore, appealing to customers.
